Chapter 1.1: When You Find A Way, Seize The Day, Don’t Delay!
The opening stanza of the The Way and the Power of Virtue begins with a statement on the limitations of language in encapsulating human experience and in so doing offers an invitation to walk along the Way -- reading this text is more than just an intellectual exercise. The Way is be walked not just talked, to be traveled, not just discussed. It is experiential not just exposition; it is intuitive not just intellectual. It is a course of action not just a class of study. Actions speak louder than words. Inherent in this simple statement is a call to action -- to learn and then act. Remember the 道 is the vision to see the way forward, upward, and out when standing at a crossroads and then acting upon it. By doing so, you will discover a constant, abiding course for your life. So ...
When you find a way, seize the day! Don’t delay! The inherent promise of the 道 is this: No matter where you are, what brought you there, what circumstances you find yourself in, or what difficulties and obstacles you face -- THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY! A way forward, upward, and out. So, when you find a Way forward in your life, don’t wait! Don't sit there talking about it – hit the trail! Seize the day! Don’t just stand on the sidelines. Jump in! Get going! Run to the breach! Don't miss your opportunity by overthinking it or second guessing yourself! You can do it! The Way is an opportunity each day, each moment of life. It is a turning point, a crossing, and yet such opportunities, such crossings do not wait for us to act on them forever. As the English theologian Leonard Ravenhill (1907-1994) once said, “The opportunity of a lifetime needs to be seized during the lifetime of the opportunity.” So seize it. Look around. Find a way. Take a step. ~ DCB
